The APK monitor
The APK monitor is a monthly publication on the state of the Dutch vehicle fleet, based on open data from the RDW, the Dutch vehicle authority. Each edition shows how many inspections resulted in at least one failure item, broken down by vehicle age, which defect categories occur most often and which models stand out in either direction.
An edition appears monthly and is never changed after publication: cited figures remain verifiable on this page.
Editions
Method in brief
All figures come from open RDW inspection data over a rolling three-year window. Only genuine failure items count; advisory items are excluded. Fleet figures come from a broad, representative sample across all age groups; category and model figures come from the models Plateop tracks. Each edition states its exact coverage, observation window and thresholds.

Figures from the APK monitor are free to use in journalistic and academic publications, with attribution and, online, a link.
